C.R. England in the past decade, C.R. England has played a leading role among transportation companies in the area of tractor and trailer aerodynamics, overall weight reduction, and optimizing fuel economy and route selection.
Whether it is operating natural gas fleets through our dedicated division, reducing fuel consumption through our intermodal network, or testing and implementing new technologies, C.R. England strives to be the most environmentally responsible fleet in the industry.
Awards
C.R. England is a recognized leader in the transportation industry in creating a cleaner environment.
We are proud of the accomplishments that we have achieved. The following is a summary of our notable recent awards.
SmartWay Transport Program
C.R. England Is proud to be a carrier in the SmartWay Transport Partner program. SmartWay has recognized us for our outstanding environmental performance utilizing some of the most available fuel saving strategies.
As a Transport Partner, we have committed to continually find ways to improve our environmental performance.
Driver Training C.R. England trains each of our drivers extensively on maintaining a high mpg per paid mile. Drivers and Independent Contractors are taught to eliminate out-of-route miles, limit idle time, and control their speed. All drivers are instructed on developing habits that reduce emissions and increase the miles driven per gallon of fuel. Driver training starts in the schools and continues throughout their career.

C.R. England has enforced no-idle and idle reduction policies in place.
There is increased attention to seasonal idle goal management with detailed weekly performance management by division, fleet and truck. Seasonal idle goals adjust based on temperature.
All C.R. England trucks come equipped with economical bunk heaters to prevent excessive idling for heat during the winter months.
C.R. England teams improve efficiency, get loads to our customers faster, and allows for decreased idle time. Teams decrease idle as well as reduce the need for more trucks on the road through increased productivity.
C.R. England is committed to using the most aerodynamic tractors that are available. We equip all of our tractors with aero kits, aluminum wheels, low rolling resistant tires, and wheel covers.
The trailers we utilize have side skirts, low rolling resistant tires as well as aluminum wheels to reduce weight. C.R. England has some of the newest and most environmentally friendly equipment on the road.
Since our speed reduction policy, we have seen dramatic changes in our MPG numbers year after year.
C.R. England has implemented new technologies to increase efficiency as well as reduce fuel consumption. These technologies look at fleet optimization to reduce deadhead and out-of-route miles and un-tethered trailer tracking.
The company has implemented controlled type II and type IV testing for products and technologies before implementing them fleet-wide. By testing, the company can isolate and control specific variables to identify the fuel savings and effectiveness in a specific technology. It saves money by testing first and then determining whether it should be expanded into the entire fleet.
The company supports and encourages in-office recycling programs. C.R. England has both shredder bins and bins that hold paper, cardboard, plastic, and aluminum around the company for employee use as well as recycling tires, solvents, oil, and more.
C.R. England has expanded its intermodal network significantly. Each load converted to Intermodal has a 60% carbon reduction over OTR.
This service offering has been an important focus to C.R. England’s carbon footprint improvements. TempStack, the 53’ refrigerated container network, is continuing to expand. With a lading capacity of 43,000-pounds, this has been a successful offering for our customers.
The TempStack fleets utilize ultra-lightweight day cab tractors to allow for increased MPG as well as the ability for more weight to be put onto the container.
In 2013 C.R. England held a Natural Gas Symposium bringing shippers, fuel, OEM and manufacturing vendors, and carriers together to discuss the current and future state of natural gas. While natural gas has not been developed to support over-the-road operations, C.R. England is working with customers to implement natural gas solutions in many applications such as regional, short-haul, closed loop or local moves where the infrastructure is in place. While there are still challenges to implementing these tractors.
C.R. England will continue to test and implement this fuel wherever possible. As the Natural Gas infrastructure grows, we will expand our footprint and introduce these power units in other areas of the country. Efficient, clean-burning natural gas represents an ideal alternative fuel for our fleet.
In 2011 our C.R. England Dedicated service introduced a fleet of day cab tractors powered with 15-liter LNG engines.
In 2013 C.R. England Dedicated service introduced its fleet of CNG day cabs with 9-liter engines. These engines are solely run on Compressed Natural Gas. They run in a local fleet in Utah where we will test the trucks for efficiency, MPG, maintenance costs and more.
In 2014 C.R. England expanded its LNG fleet with 12-liter Mack Pinnacle tractors. The 12-liter is spark ignited, not diesel ignited, removing the need to have duel fuel, and removing the need to have Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
C.R. England is a family-owned, customer and employee focused corporation since 1920, and is driven to deliver excellence as one of the most prominent temperature-controlled carriers in the nation.
