America’s trucking industry is facing a dire shortage of qualified drivers that now numbers in the tens of thousands. For most of the last hundred years, trucking is a career that has been dominated by men due to the physical demands of the work. But things are changing. The combination of new technology and a concerted effort to increase employment opportunities for women has resulted in greater numbers of women driving trucks for a living.
