5 New Year’s Resolutions for Truck Drivers

admin 23 January, 2017

The 2016 holiday season is now behind us, and it is time to start looking toward a safe and prosperous 2017. To that end, C.R. England encourages truck drivers across the country to focus on making the next 12 months the best ever. Let us all put our best foot forward and commit to doing what we do better than we ever have before.

If you are someone who likes to make New Year’s resolutions, we have a few recommendations. Here are our five New Year’s resolutions for truck drivers:

1. 12 Months Accident-Free

Accidents are part of the trucking industry. Let’s face it; putting more than 100,000 miles under your wheels every year substantially increases your chances of having an accident. Why not commit to working as hard as you can to make sure 2017 is accident-free? Avoiding accidents will improve your profitability as a truck driver and your reputation as well. It could also save money and lives.

2. 12 Months Injury-Free

Workplace injuries can occur whenever a truck driver is loading, unloading, or even walking around the truck doing a routine inspection. Unfortunately, workplace injuries reduce productivity. Make 2017 the year that you work safely and productively while avoiding the kinds of injuries that are typical for truck drivers.

3. 12 Months Without Moving Violations

Nobody likes getting a ticket for moving violations. Truck drivers are especially unhappy because moving violations make it harder to progress as a professional. So do yourself and your career a good deed by always driving safely and legally all times. If you can go 12 months without a single moving violation, you will have accomplished something significant.

4. 12 Months of Passed Inspections

Roadside inspections and weight checks are a necessary part of what we do. But you do not have to let your work week be defined by them. With a little bit of effort and self-consciousness, you can clear every roadside inspection with flying colors and never come in overweight. That will save you time, money, and the kinds of frustrations that make truck driving more difficult than it needs to be.

5. 12 Months of a Better Attitude

Every job has certain frustrations that go with it. Truck drivers have more frustrations than some other occupations due to uncontrolled things such as weather, traffic, delays by shippers, and so on. Do not let the frustrations define you as a truck driver. Instead, commit to maintaining a positive attitude no matter what comes your way. Your positivity will rub off on others. It will also mean better mental and physical health for you.
