This Veterans Day, it is estimated that over 370,000 veterans will be unemployed, which is why C.R. England is dedicated to hiring, honoring, and recognizing our country’s veterans. We recognize the need to ensure that the honored men and women coming out of the military have great jobs, and C.R. England considers it a privilege to hire these individuals. In 2017, C.R. England hired over 2,300 veterans and our experience with hiring military veterans has been extremely positive. There are countless reasons to hire our nation’s service men and women, but here are just a few reasons why we love to hire veterans:
- Strong Work Ethic: Time and time again, our veteran team members have proven themselves to be dedicated, disciplined, ambitious, and focused. They are able to identify what is important and consistently work hard to achieve their goals. As an example, our veterans have an 18% higher CDL graduation rate than the non-veteran population!
- Dedicated Team Players: Due to the team orientated nature of the military, veterans are able to work in teams both small and large. They have learned to work well with and trust team members from various backgrounds, which leads them to be a valued member of any team.
- Leadership and Camaraderie: From their first day of service, veterans have been taught to be good followers, but to also be ready to take on leadership roles at a moment’s notice. These skills have proven to be extremely valuable in civilian life.
- High Performance Under Pressure: Being able to perform well under pressure is not a skill that everyone has and is not easy to obtain. Because of their experience in the military, veterans have the unique skill of being able to think clearly and quickly in high-pressure situations.
Veterans have made great sacrifices for our country and as civilians, they are incredible assets to our company. Because of this, C.R. England has put many programs in place to honor and recognize our veteran team members.
Service to Semis
C.R. England has created the Service to Semis program as a way to help veterans transition from military to civilian life. This program, which is approved by the Department of Labor and VA, allows GI Bill Eligible Veterans to earn up to an additional $15,900 tax-free their first year from the VA, in addition to regular C.R. England pay. After their first year, Veterans earn a certificate from the Department of Labor certifying their completion of the Professional Truck Driving Apprentice Program.
Zero Out of Pocket Training
To make sure our veterans are properly trained, we offer zero out-of-pocket CDL-A training at one of our Premier Truck Driving Schools for eligible veterans that commit to and complete a nine month employment contract with C.R. England. This training sets our veterans up for a successful and rewarding career as a professional truck driver.
Veteran Rally and Trucks
Each year, C.R. England holds a Veteran Rally in Salt Lake City to honor some of our highest performing veteran drivers and non-driving staff. At this event, each driver we recognize is added to the C.R. England Honored Veterans Fleet and receives a new tractor that is wrapped in military insignia decals to proudly represent our company and great country while on the road.
Veteran Apparel
Every single veteran team member, whether driver, independent contractor, office or maintenance staff, will receive a C.R. England Veteran hat, button-up shirt, and decal as a small token of our appreciation for their service.

Military veterans stick to their commitments; they work hard, are disciplined, focused, and are team players. It is with great gratitude that we honor those who have served our nation and defended its freedoms. They and their families have made sacrifices to protect and uphold the freedoms that we have today. We would like to extend our personal thanks to each of you who have served.
