C.R. England's world-class training program is the best in the industry, with a strong emphasis on safety. The comprehensive program consists of classroom, on-truck and over-the-road training. Not only will you get your commercial driver license, you'll also build a foundation of safe driving practices that will assist you in building a career with C.R. England...for the long haul.

Training:

The training program is divided into four distinct phases.

Phase One
Spend 18 days learning how to operate the equipment properly and safely as well as learning the rules and regulations that govern professional truck drivers. You will also learn about our equipment and the paperwork required of a driver.

Phase Two
Attend a three-and-a-half day company orientation to familiarize yourself with C.R. England policy and procedures.

Phase Three
Phase three is your on-the-job training during which you begin to receive pay. You will be assigned to a certified driving instructor. You are with an instructor for a minimum of 21 days to receive 15,000 miles of training. You will be paid $57.14 per day, which equates to $400 per week. There will be four learning modules you will need to complete during this part of your training. At the end of this training, you will be given a road evaluation and attend a one-day certification program. At this point you gain "Certified Driver" status.

Phase Four
This phase is the C.A.T. (Career Advancement Team) Program. During this phase, as a company driver, you will be a 2nd seat with an independent contractor for three weeks. This gives you the opportunity to observe our lease program up close and gain additional driving experience. You will be paid 11 cents per mile for all truck miles plus pickup and drop pay and detention pay. (The average pay will be $450 to $600 per week) You will be required to complete four learning modules during this phase of your training.

Once you have completed your training program you can choose your career path. Your options are:

What to Expect

Our program is fast-paced, but rewarding. By the end of the first week, if you do your part, you will accomplish amazing things.

You'll meet your classroom instructor and learn about safety procedures, mechanical operations of the truck and how to log. Be prepared for homework every day throughout training and know that the harder you work, the faster you will reach your goals.

In addition to first-rate classroom instruction, the fun begins when you start in the trucks. You should expect a lot of hard work as you learn things like:

  • Making turns with the tractor and trailer
  • Handling intersections and railroad crossings
  • Driving through city and highway traffic
  • Backing up the tractor-trailer
  • Coupling and uncoupling the tractor to the trailer
  • Inspecting the equipment, including the complete pre-trip inspection
  • Conducting brake tests

Once you have successfully completed our CDL Training Program and received a CDL, you will be hired and assigned to a certified Over-the-Road Trainer. Your trainer will reinforce what you learned in school and provide you with ample opportunities to learn about your new career. We are excited to have you begin your career with us. We are committed to preparing you for the long haul, and want you to accomplish everything you desire.
